Our Physicians

Our team is made up of highly trained, passionate podiatrists. Each is licensed to diagnose and treat all foot and ankle diseases and injuries. Our physicians also perform a variety of in-hospital and office-based surgeries, evaluate and treat sports-related injuries, and create prescription orthotic devices.

 
Dr. Corwyn Bergsma

Corwyn B. Bergsma

Dr. Bergsma grew up on the lakeshore of West Michigan as the son of a local physician. He was drawn to podiatry as a young athlete that experienced the benefit of podiatric treatment for sports related injuries. Upon completing his surgical residency in 2004, he returned to Michigan to join Foot and Ankle Specialists.

In addition to offering full podiatric services, Dr. Bergsma is often contacted to treat patients with sports injuries and provides preventative care for competitive athletes. He has also had the opportunity to join other Muskegon physicians and the University of Michigan to offer free medical and surgical treatment to a young boy from Lebanon.

Dr. Bergsma is the former president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association Western Division. He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and board certified in both reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, along with reconstructive foot surgery.

Dr. Michael David

Michael G. David

As a Grand Rapids native, Dr. David returned to the area to begin his practice in 1985. In 1999, he merged his practice with Dr. Rozelle and Dr. Decker to form Foot and Ankle Specialists of West Michigan.

Dr. David enjoys all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery. He studied directly under the world renowned Dr. Ignacio Ponseti and was the first physician in West Michigan to become certified in the Ponseti method of clubfoot treatment for children. Foot and ankle conditions of children is of special interest to him and he has volunteered with Healing the Children.

He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Pediatrics and a clinical instructor for Michigan State University. Dr. David has served as President of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association Western Division. He is board certified in Foot and Ankle surgery and a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Joshua Decker

Joshua R. Decker

Dr. Joshua Decker is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. A personal experience as a young adult gave Dr. Decker a new understanding of health care providers’ ability to provide pain control. He was drawn to the idea of receiving personal satisfaction from helping someone in need. It was this experience that drew him to pursue a career as a physician.

The field of podiatry became his passion as he observed his father, Dr. William Decker, in his podiatric practice. In the summer months of his podiatric training, he worked at a free health care clinic in Honduras. He trained in the podiatric department of Detroit Medical Center during his residency. There, he treated a wide range of orthopedic and podiatric conditions, including both adult and pediatric complex foot and ankle deformities and trauma.

Dr. Decker’s residency offered him Level 1 Trauma experience. He completed an AO Fellowship under Sigvard T. Hansen, M.D. He traveled to the University of Iowa to study directly under world renowned Ignacio Ponseti. Dr. Decker offers clubfoot treatment using the Ponseti technique. Dr. Decker is board certified in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery and reconstructive foot surgery. He currently serves as chief of podiatry at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Dr. Decker offers appointments at Grand Rapids Northwest and Greenville offices, as well as St. Mary’s Wound Clinic.

Dr. William Decker

William R. Decker

A native of Grand Rapids, Dr. William Decker completed his podiatric surgical residency in 1981. He then joined the practice of his father, Dr. Robert Decker. In 1999, he joined his practice with Dr. Michael David and Dr. Richard Rozelle to form Foot and Ankle Specialists of West Michigan.

Dr. Decker is board certified in foot and ankle surgery and is diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Dr. Decker is a clinical assistant professor with Michigan State University. He enjoys all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery and has advanced training in the treatment of complex and lower extremity wounds.

Appointments are available with Dr. Decker at our Grand Rapids Northwest office and at the Spectrum Wound Clinic.

Dr. Timothy Hulst

Timothy J. Hulst

Originally from Holland, Michigan, Dr. Hulst gained interest in podiatric medicine because of the variety and challenges of disease and injury involving the lower extremity. He completed an advanced three-year surgical residency along with an AO Trauma fellowship in Germany before returning to Grand Rapids in 1997.

He worked with Dr. Michael David and Dr. William Decker in their private offices and partnered with them to join Foot and Ankle Specialists of West Michigan in 1999. His training provided him with in-depth knowledge of trauma and treatment of the forefoot, rearfoot and ankle.

Dr. Hulst has been involved with the Healing the Children program and has provided free reconstructive surgery to children from third-world countries. As a board certified podiatrist, he treats all aspects of foot and ankle disease. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a clinical assistant professor for Michigan State University.

Dr. Hulst treats patients at our Grand Rapids Southeast office.

Dr. Patrick Meyer

Patrick J. Meyer

Dr. Meyer was raised in Jenison, Michigan. Prior to joining Foot and Ankle Specialists in 2000, he completed a trauma fellowship in Germany, along with an advanced three-year surgical residency and diabetic foot fellowship at Wayne State University. He has done extensive work with the Healing the Children program for a child from the Dominican Republic.

Dr. Meyer is board certified in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery and reconstructive foot surgery. He is a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University, a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, and a member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is currently the Medical Director at the Walker Surgical Center.

Dr. Jeffrey Rewitzer

Jeffrey S. Rewitzer

Dr. Rewitzer is originally from Fruitport, Michigan. Following his surgical residency in Cleveland, Ohio, he returned to the lakeshore area of West Michigan in 1987 to begin his private practice. In 2001, he merged his practice with Foot and Ankle Specialists. He continues to offer both medical and surgical podiatric health care to the patients living in the lakeshore area.

Dr. Rewitzer has teamed with the Healing the Children program to provide podiatric care to a young man from a the Dominican Republic. He is board certified in foot surgery and serves as a clinical assistant professor with Michigan State University. He continues to support the medical community of the lakeshore area by serving on physician committees both at the local hospitals and as a board member of Affinia Health.

Dr. Rewitzer treats patients at our Norton Shores office.

Dr. Richard Rozelle

Richard W. Rozelle

Originally from Grand Rapids, Dr. Rozelle developed an interest in podiatric medicine while serving in the U.S. Navy. He returned to his hometown to begin his private practice in 1982. Dr. Rozelle joined with Dr. Decker and Dr. David in 1999 to form Foot and Ankle Specialists.

Dr. and Mrs. Rozelle have been seen on both local and national television (including the Oprah Winfrey Show) to talk about their personal adoption of two daughters from Russia. They continue to be involved in a number of programs to support foreign adoption and make frequent mission trips to Guatemala. 

Dr. Rozelle is board certified in foot surgery. He has served as president of the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association Western Division and is a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He is also a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University.
